Creativity is in Lambeth’s DNA. From the world-class institutions of the South Bank to vibrant hubs in Brixton, Vauxhall and Clapham, the borough is rich in cultural assets and talent. Since launching our Creative Ways to Grow strategy in 2018, Lambeth Council has helped secure over £50 million for the sector, supported major capital projects, and created opportunities for more than 5,000 young people to explore careers in the creative industries. We now attract more Arts Council England National Portfolio funding than any other London borough, with 27 NPOs receiving over £133 million between 2023–26. Our leading cultural institutions in Waterloo and on the South Bank, such as the National Theatre, Southbank Centre and BFI, generate over £510 million in GVA and welcome 5.6 million visitors each year. Brixton is also home to one of London’s accredited Creative Enterprise Zones, nurturing local talent and supporting creative entrepreneurs.
Lambeth’s diverse communities, cultural infrastructure and global reputation give the borough a distinct competitive advantage. Our Growth Plan recognises the significant economic and social impact of our creative and cultural assets, and our 2025 Creative Economy and Night Time Strategies will strengthen the sector further. By creating more interconnected, inclusive and equitable creative ecosystems with affordable workspaces, strong local networks and high-quality jobs, we are building a resilient, sustainable creative economy for the future.
