Three Lambeth high streets designated for High Street Rental Auctions

Lambeth Council has officially designated three areas of the borough for High Street Rental Auctions (HSRAs), a new initiative designed to help bring long-term vacant commercial properties back into use.

The designated areas are:

  • Brixton Major Town Centre
  • West Norwood District Centre
  • New Park Road Local Centre

High Street Rental Auctions are a new power available to councils that can help tackle persistent vacancy by enabling eligible empty commercial units to be rented to new tenants.

With retail vacancy rates in Lambeth at their highest level in a decade, the programme aims to support local entrepreneurs, increase footfall and help bring fresh activity back to local shopping streets.

Designation does not mean all vacant units will be auctioned. Each property will be assessed individually and HSRA powers would only be considered where legal criteria are met and other routes to occupation have been explored.
