Danceology: A Celebration of Lambeth’s Social Dance Heritage at Lambeth Town Hall
“Some performances entertain you. Some move you. Every now and then one reminds you why people have always gathered to dance in the first place. Danceology at Lambeth Town Hall does exactly that……Joyful, original and uplifting -Danceology is a celebration of dance as community.” Audience member
During the spring of 2026, Lambeth Council and Corali, in collaboration with Extant, presented Danceology, a new participatory project celebrating the borough’s rich history of social dance. The event took place on the Day of Dance – a key moment within Let’s Dance! – The nationwide movement led by Angela Rippon encourages people of all ages and abilities to get moving.
Danceology reimagined the historic Lambeth Town Hall as a living, breathing cultural space, transforming its iconic rooms into the setting for an immersive performance. Exploring social dance as a powerful expression of community, creativity and shared joy, Corali dancers guided audiences on a journey of music, memory and movement through some of the building’s most remarkable spaces, including the Mayor’s Suite and the Council Chamber.
Audiences experienced an engaging blend of styles ranging from silent-disco–inspired moments and tea-dance nostalgia to house-party energy, inviting participants to move, connect and experience the heritage of Lambeth in a new and dynamic way. All performances were creatively audio-described, with one BSL performance. We are committed to ensuring our creative sector is more representative, equitable and inclusive, accessible and enjoyed by local communities.
The UK Shared Prosperity Fund supported this innovative project.
