Kevin Campbell mural unveiled in the heart of Brixton

A new mural celebrating the life and legacy of the late Brixton-born footballer Kevin Campbell has been unveiled in the heart of Brixton.

The striking artwork, funded by the Kevin Campbell Foundation and created by London-based mural artist Itaewon (Jake Attewell), now has a permanent home on the exterior of Morleys Department Store, celebrating Kevin’s journey from Brixton to the highest levels of professional football and the lasting impact he made both on and off the pitch.

The mural was officially unveiled on Sunday 6 September, bringing together Kevin’s family and representatives from the Kevin Campbell Foundation, Morleys Department Store, Lambeth Council and members of the local community.

Continuing Kevin’s legacy

The Kevin Campbell Foundation was established by Kevin’s family to continue his commitment to giving back and creating opportunities for others, with a particular focus on supporting children and young people.

Representatives from the Foundation were in Brixton throughout the day, meeting local people and sharing more about their work and ambitions for the future.

Lorna Campbell said:

“Kevin was born and bred in Brixton, and his roots and connection with Brixton never left. Creating a permanent memorial to him here felt incredibly important. It’s been a real labour of love, and I hope we can build on the relationships we’ve created to do even more within the Lambeth community in Kevin’s honour.”

The Foundation has also launched a range of Kevin Campbell merchandise, now available in Morleys Brixton store, with all profits going to the Foundation to support its ongoing work.

The store has created a wider celebration of Kevin’s life and career alongside the mural, including photographs and displays recognising his achievements and connection to the area.

A lasting tribute in Brixton

Leader of Lambeth Council, Councillor Martin Abrams, joined the celebrations and congratulated everyone involved in bringing the project to life.

The mural was developed through a partnership between Lambeth Council, the Kevin Campbell Foundation and Morleys Department Store, following an open call for artists earlier this year.

Itaewon was selected to deliver the commission, with his design combining photo-realistic moments from Kevin’s football career with references to his roots and upbringing in Brixton.
