Cormont Road school highlighted in National Investment Prospectus

A landmark heritage site in Lambeth is beginning to attract attention from the development sector, following its inclusion in Historic England’s 2026 Heritage Investment Prospectus.

The former Cormont Road School, located within the Minet Conservation Area and overlooking Myatt’s Fields Park, is a Grade II listed Victorian building with a long history in the borough. Built in 1898, it has served generations of local families and played a role in national history, including use as a military hospital during the First World War.

Having been vacant since 2019, the site is now being recognised for its potential to support future redevelopment.

Building interest, shaping the future

Historic England’s Prospectus showcases sites across the country where there is scope to bring historic buildings back into active use, supporting housing delivery, investment and regeneration.

In Lambeth, Cormont Road School has been identified as a site with strong potential for residential-led or mixed-use development, reflecting both its scale and its location.

Lambeth Council is continuing to engage with the local community as thinking around the site evolves, with regular dialogue helping to inform future possibilities. Early interest has also highlighted the potential for mixed-use approaches, including education-led elements alongside housing.

Looking ahead

At this stage, the Prospectus listing is intended to raise awareness and signal potential, rather than mark the start of a formal marketing process.

As plans develop, the site represents an opportunity to bring a historic building back into use in a way that supports Lambeth’s wider ambitions around growth, housing and long-term value.

Further updates will be shared as the next phase of the site’s future takes shape – Heritage Investment Prospectus
