198 CAL is a centre for visual arts, education and creative enterprise in Brixton. Their mission is to nurture and support the careers of emerging, under-represented artists and creatives, and to advance public interest in the visual arts.

198 CAL’s work is framed by local communities and the history of the Brixton uprisings which were a prompt for the establishment of the organisation over 30 years ago. In 2017, 198 CAL was granted National Portfolio Status by Arts Council England.

The site is being redeveloped and will include a gallery, community space and office space for creative industry start-ups. The project will also see the creation of The Factory, an education and enterprise space that will help young people launch new creative businesses, delivered by 198 CAL with Raw Material, Photofusion and Hatch Enterprises.
