Investing in creativity: Lambeth’s Future Workspace Fund supports ASC Studios relaunch in Streatham Hill
ASC Launch event
Lambeth Council is continuing to deliver on its Growth Plan by investing in the borough’s creative economy, this time through the relaunch of ASC Studios Streatham Hill, a newly refurbished hub for artists and makers.
Supported with £200,000 from the first round of Lambeth’s Future Workspace Fund, the project has transformed ASC’s Streatham Hill site into 12,150 square feet of affordable, high-quality workspace for local creatives.
The investment secured the freehold of the building, funded major roof and heating upgrades, and created a new community Project Space that will host free events and workshops for local schools, youth clubs and community organisations.
The Relaunch event held in the project space on Friday, October 10th featured live music, guest speakers and an exhibition curated specifically for the launch from artists based at ASC Streatham Hill. CEO Peter Flack praised the Future Workspace Fund for allowing them to achieve their long-term ambitions to create a secure future for artists in the south of the borough.
The private view was followed by open studios later that evening and into the next day, which coincided with the Streatham Festival, amplifying the work of local creatives to the wider Streatham community.
The Future Workspace Fund was created to help organisations across Lambeth adapt, grow and create inclusive, affordable workspaces, ensuring local talent can thrive close to home. The relaunch of ASC Studios is a powerful example of this ambition in action.
Cllr Marcia Cameron, Cabinet Member for Economic Inclusion, said:
- Lambeth’s creative and cultural industries are central to our Growth Plan. Through the Future Workspace Fund, we’re helping organisations like ASC provide secure, affordable studios that allow creativity to flourish. The completion of ASC’s Streatham Hill site ensures that artists and makers continue to be part of Lambeth’s story.
The Streatham Hill relaunch secures 59 businesses and 70 jobs, introduces an Artist in Residence scheme for Lambeth residents offering free two-year studio spaces, and welcomes new opportunities for community collaboration through the Project Space.
