Lambeth South has seen many pockets of investment in recent years, recognising the potential and opportunity particularly the town centre areas of Clapham, Streatham and West Norwood. An innovative partnership between Lambeth Council and Picturehouse in West Norwood has seen a state of the art library and cinema delivered in the a refurbished and extended building in the heart of the town centre, whilst strategic work between the council, Transport for London and the Mayor of London is delivering huge improvements in Streatham.

  • Streatham Space Project

    Streatham Space Project is a brand-new community place for theatre, comedy, music, art exhibitions in the heart of the town centre. Secured through the planning process, it is part of London Square’s development of more than 200 homes.  

  • Streatham town centre regeneration

    Streatham’s high street is home to 400 businesses, mostly situated alongside the busy A23 road. Recent investment from Lambeth Council and Transport for London has improved the streets and public spaces, delivering new lighting, improved shop fronts and improved accessibility for pedestrians.

  • Studio Voltaire

    Studio Voltaire is a leading visual arts organisation, providing a programme of exhibitions, events and commissions alongside affordable workspace in Clapham. Following recent Good Growth Fund investment, they plan to develop and expand their existing space and will offer 42% more artist space, improved gallery and improved access, and new community spaces.

  • West Norwood town centre

    West Norwood is seeing huge investment into community and social amenities, with a brand new £6m West Norwood Library and Picturehouse Cinema opening in late 2018, a Health & Leisure Centre and the recently announced £7m investment in West Norwood Cemetery through the Heritage Lottery Fund and Lambeth Council.

  • Clapham Park Estate

    A detailed planning application from Metropolitan was approved in 2018, to increase the number of homes on the Clapham Park Estate from 1,668 to 4,077, 53% of which will be affordable – a combination of social and affordable rents, as well as homes for shared ownership and shared equity.

  • Streatham Common and Clapham Common are two of Lambeth’s (and London’s) biggest green spaces, both home to a huge variety of sports and hosts of major events. Streatham Common’s magnificent Rookery gardens and cafe are ever popular with local families, alongside the Common’s new £800k children’s playground. Clapham Common meanwhile hosts a weekly Parkrun, football matches, Aussie Rules Football as well as commercial events like Winterville, Moonwalk and South West Four.

  • Streatham is home to a number of festivals throughout the year. The Streatham Festival features live music, dance, workshops, exhibitions and drama. The Streatham Food Festival, organised by InStreatham Business Improvement District, showcases the fabulous food offer of local businesses. And the Streatham Free Film Festival takes place across the summer months.

  • In Clapham, the Venn Street Market is a local community food market every Saturday showcasing with farmers and small independent producers. In West Norwood, FEAST takes place on the first Sunday of the month and is a volunteer-powered street market festival with over 100 stalls, live entertainment and craft fair.
