Bridging the Gap: Tackling Housing and Boosting Opportunity in Lambeth
Lambeth is a borough of bold ambition and sharp contrasts. As one of the most diverse and culturally vibrant areas in London, it’s also home to one of the capital’s most pressing challenges: housing.
More than 40,000 households are currently on Lambeth’s housing waiting list, with over 4,600 families in temporary accommodation. These figures underscore the urgent need for long-term solutions to ensure all Lambeth residents can access safe, secure, and affordable homes.

The local economy is being shaped by fast-growing sectors like culture and the creative industries, health and life sciences, and the green economy. With major developments like the Brixton Creative Enterprise Zone and the SC1 Life Science Innovation District, Lambeth is not only investing in the future of work but also ensuring that local people benefit from the jobs and businesses these sectors will create.

But inclusive growth can’t happen without tackling housing.
That’s why Lambeth Council is working towards the delivery of at least 500 new genuinely affordable homes by 2030. This includes identifying council-owned land for development and pursuing innovative intensification and densification strategies, making the most of existing sites to build more homes for those who need them most.
From job creation to housing supply, Lambeth is working to ensure no one is left behind in the borough’s future.
