Lambeth Celebrates Small Business Saturday with a Week of Activities
Lambeth’s vibrant business community took center stage this December, as the borough marked Small Business Saturday with a series of events celebrating our local entrepreneurs and their incredible contributions to the local economy.
The week began with the release of inspiring video interviews featuring three dynamic local businesses (click to watch videos) – B1 Creative, A Celebration of Demonstration and Get Rid Of and Donate. These conversations, hosted by Lambeth’s Small Business Champion, Cllr Irfan Mohammed, showcased the creativity, resilience, and impact of small businesses on our economy and communities.
On Friday, Lambeth Council formally demonstrated its commitment to small businesses by signing the Federation of Small Business’ Local Leadership Partner pledge. This occasion reaffirms Lambeth dedication to creating a supportive environment where businesses can thrive. The borough will continue to work through partnerships with key organisations, such as the Federation of Small Business, to expand and deepen its support to small business across the borough.
Referring to this exciting new relationship with the Federation of Small Business, Cllr Irfan Mohammed, Lambeth Small Business Champion, pointed out that “partnerships are key to ensuring that the benefits of business activity in our borough reaches all our residents. With over 98% of businesses in Lambeth employing less than 50 people, our new partnership with the Federation of Small Businesses is particularly important.”
The week concluded at the FEAST Christmas Market in West Norwood, where the Small Business Surgery offered tailored advice to entrepreneurs. During the event, 10 local businesses signed up for further support through Lambeth’s dedicated programmes, underscoring the council’s hands-on approach to business growth.
Reflecting on the build-up to Small Business Saturday and the day itself, Cllr Marcia Cameron, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy said:
- our activities promoting small businesses this week has clearly demonstrated the dynamism, diversity and importance of local businesses to the borough. I am looking forward to building on this and working with the team and our partners to deepen our engagement with and support to small business in Lambeth.”
