London Borough of Culture
London Borough of Culture is a new initiative launched by the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan. Inspired by the UK City and European Capital of Culture awards, the London Borough of Culture aims to capture the energy and imagination of an entire city.
All 32 London Boroughs now have the opportunity to compete for the title. The winning borough will be awarded £1 million by the Greater London Authority, with additional funding from programme partners including Heritage Lottery Fund and Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
Culture is everywhere in Lambeth. From the world’s preeminent artistic quarter on the South Bank, to the famous gay nightclubs of Vauxhall, and the UK’s first dedicated black heritage centre with the Black Cultural Archives. Culture is part of Lambeth’s DNA.
Between now and 1st December 2017, Lambeth Council will be reaching out to communities and organisations across the borough to develop a compelling application for the London Borough of Culture award.
Lambeth has the world in one borough. We want to develop a cultural programme that will bring communities closer together, celebrate the borough’s remarkable diversity, and create jobs and life chances for residents from all backgrounds.
