Raw Material unveils state-of-the-art creative space in Brixton – A future Workspace Funded project
Congratulations to Raw Material Music & Media Education Ltd on the launch of its newly refurbished three-story space in Brixton’s Creative Enterprise Zone!
This ambitious four-year project has transformed Raw Material into a cutting-edge hub for music, media, and creative enterprise. The upgraded space now features professional recording studios, a digital suite, DJ and video production equipment, a live room, and a brand-new attic coworking space, all designed to nurture talent, foster creativity, and support mental well-being.
Community-based organisations like Raw Material play a vital role in enriching the areas they are based in, offering essential services, training, and creative opportunities that empower local people. Access to high-quality, professional facilities is often a barrier for emerging talent, but spaces like this ensure that Lambeth’s creative communities can develop their skills and careers in an accessible and supportive environment.
Beyond supporting local creatives, the upgraded space also presents new opportunities for businesses. Organisations can now access state-of-the-art facilities for training sessions, events, and collaborative projects, making Raw Material a valuable asset for both Lambeth-based businesses and those looking to engage with the borough’s thriving creative sector.
Cllr Marcia Cameron, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, said:
- The Future Workspace Fund was set up to tackle the challenges our businesses and workspaces face to provide essential skills and employment opportunities. This investment has allowed for the expansion of the third floor, enabling a more dynamic curation of activities including freelance co-working space, business support, creative projects, dry hires, and residencies.
This transformation has been made possible with support from Lambeth’s Future Workspace Fund (Round 2), which contributed £299,000, alongside £200,000 from the Creative Enterprise Zone Sustainability Grant, totalling £499,000 in funding secured by the council’s team, plus support from Arts Council England and the Greater London Authority. The Future Workspace Fund is designed to enable and sustain high-quality, affordable workspaces across the borough. In this case, it has helped deliver 3,552 sq ft of affordable workspace, ensuring that organisations like Raw Material can thrive.
By expanding business support, coworking opportunities, and event space hire, Raw Material’s upgraded space cements its place as a key creative hub that will continue to serve and inspire the local community and businesses for years to come.
