RE:Purpose – Initiative for Inclusive Growth in the Creative Industries
RE:Purpose is Lambeth Council’s initiative to deliver inclusive growth for the creative industries by empowering businesses and organisations to repurpose space for cultural and creative use and to develop sustainable business models that are purpose-driven.
This small capital grants programme for creative industries businesses and cultural organisations based in or operating in the borough of Lambeth, is delivered by Lambeth Council with the support of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).
What we have funded so far
In the first round of the programme, we invested £291.952.95of capital funding into 12 projects to improve their facilities, with grants of up to £25,000 being awarded to the following organisations:
- VAULT Creative Arts, to transform their basement and old office at The Glitch into an enhanced and bigger performance space.
- Studio Voltaire, to upgrade their Events Studio to facilitate more photo shoots and corporate away days.
- The Boury Academy, to enhance two of their studio spaces and user common room area, and also invest in fit-for-purpose demountable staging.
- Portico Gallery, to upgrade their Main Hall and Photographic Studio to industry-standard specifications to accommodate more professional groups.
- Photofusion, to enhance their studio teaching spaces with more advanced digital printing and processing equipment.
- Build Studios, to upgrade co-working spaces for their users and invest in sound-proof meeting pods.
- Beaconsfield, to build ‘Beaconsfield Electronic Music Studio plus Visuals’, which will combine analogue and digital technology in a currently disused space.
- South London Theatre, to upgrade their Grade II-listed building to ensure better soundproofing and insulation between different spaces in the venue.
- Gasworks, to install external high-definition digital poster screens and overhaul their internal signage to be more accessible and inclusive.
- Whippersnappers, to turn their old office into a digital media suite and upgrade their performing arts space in Brockwell Lido.
- Block336, to build a fully accessible training room and new accessible toilet as part of their AccessPlus programme.
- The Cinema Museum, to install a new lift to make the venue fully accessible to wheelchair users and visitors with limited mobility.
