Studio Voltaire launches applications for their new, light-filled artist studios in the heart of Clapham

Based in the heart of Clapham, Studio Voltaire is one of the UK’s leading not-for-profit arts organisations with an international reputation.

With funding support from Stride (backed by the London Boroughs of Lambeth, Lewisham, Southwark and Wandsworth), a transformative £2.8 million capital project has provided an exciting opportunity for Studio Voltaire to develop and nurture an essential artistic community in South London. Their existing building has been completely renovated, providing a range of brand new, high quality, light filled studio spaces that will open from June 2021, as well as a bigger gallery space, dedicated learning and events space, a new public garden and a cafe.

The new spaces will enable Studio Voltaire to significantly increase the amount of support they can offer to local artists and creative communities. A Studio Award will provide subsidised workspaces, mentoring, professional development and creative opportunities to artists facing financial barriers. Two new live/work units will host 3-month artists residencies providing important opportunities for international exchange and networking. Studio tenants can also take part in dedicated studio programmes including networking opportunities, talks, workshops, studio tours and annual open studios.

Studio Voltaire aims to establish a group of artists working within contemporary art practice, with a wide range of interests, experiences and modes of working, representing diverse practices and perspectives. They are looking for practitioners who will benefit from having a sustained affordable workspace and are interested in actively contributing to the wider Studio Voltaire community.

Applications are strongly welcomed from people who are currently underrepresented in the arts, including those of Black, Asian and Multi-Ethnic heritage, those who have faces socio-economic barriers, those with disabilities, chronic illnesses or long-term health conditions and those who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Intersex.

Applications for artist’s studios at Studio Voltaire workspaces close on 1st April with occupation from June 2021.
